  • Reward yourself with something non-food-related. This could be a trip, a shopping spree, or something else you’ve been saving up for. 
  • Put sticky notes with motivating quotes around the house
  • Have a picture of your kids where you work out and commit to being a more active parent. 

Whatever drives you, use that to keep yourself going. But if you have one or two or fifty moments of weakness where you skip a workout, don’t be too hard on yourself. Just get up and try again.

Exercise in the Morning

There is not necessarily the most “ideal” time to work out in the day. Exercising 30 minutes in the morning will burn the same amount of calories as exercising for 30 minutes at night. However, some people swear by one or the other. 


Many people will say that the evening is a better time to work out because they are not morning people. Waking up early is challenging, there is no doubt about that. It is a habit that needs to be developed and comes naturally to people very rarely. 

Sometimes people like to work out at night because they feel it helps them fall asleep easier, and this is especially true if you suffer from restless leg syndrome.

However, if you plan to work out in the evening, things will almost always come up. You might get asked on a hot date, your kids could have t-ball practice, or you could just be way too tired from the day. So if you wake up and exercise, you are way more likely to get it done than if you wait. If you wait, there will always be an excuse not to do it. 

Gives You More Energy

I know it sounds crazy because exercising takes energy, but it actually makes you feel more wide awake too! If you crawl out of bed and put on clothes and head out the door, you’re probably going to feel sleepy as you pull into work. However, if you’ve had a good pre-workout drink, got your blood pumping, and then showered after, you will be WIDE awake when you go on with your day. You will be up and ready to go! Your brain will function much better as you work.

Even if you don’t feel a “crash” after eating sugar, you will likely crave more not too long after your high sugar breakfast. That is because your body is looking for another shot of energy to get through the day. This causes your body to go through a roller coaster-like motion of sugar highs and lows. 

Eating this way will cause you to consume a lot more empty calories. If you fill yourself up with good food that will burn slowly throughout the day you will consume less and feel more satisfied.

Find Active Leisure Time

According to the Mayo Clinic, you should aim for about 30 minutes of exercise a day. This is an average person. If you are looking to lose more weight then you will want to increase that exercise time. But exercising all day every day will feel really tiresome after a while. So how can you bring more activity into your life without necessarily working out all the time?

Drinking water is essential to losing weight and keeping it off. Here are my favorite reasons why water is so beneficial.
