My Favorite Podcasts for A BionicGym Workout

One of the things that people love most about BionicGym is that you can do other things while working out. You can work, talk on the phone, watch tv and much more! But my favorite thing to do while I’m doing BionicGym is to listen to podcasts. There are so many out there and I like to save my absolute favorite ones for when I am working out. This is a great example of a nonfood reward that can keep you motivated to exercise. If I reserve my favorite podcasts for when I am working out, then I look forward to it much more than if I was just putting in extra hours at the office. So here are my favorite podcasts for a BionicGym workout.

You can get any of these podcasts on the podcast app for free. Some offer additional episodes that require a purchase, but all these are free.

Crime Junkie

Audiochuck

Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat

Crime Junkie was the podcast that got me into podcasts. I listened to the first episode about three years ago and binge listened to the entirety of the episodes.

What Is It?

This podcast is a true-crime podcast that walks you through murders that have been solved and many that are still unsolved. One of the awesome things about it is that you can truly make a difference in this true-crime community. AshleyFlowers regularly has fundraisers for different crimes to get DNA tested or other things. There have been actual crimes that have been solved while this podcast has been going on and you better bet that Ashley and Brit are among the first to give you a detailed update when that happens!

Why I Love It

There are so many reasons why I love it, but here are a few:

Voice

It’s like talking to a friend. Ashley and Brit have been friends for almost their whole lives and they have on-air chemistry that makes you feel like you are a part of it. You can listen to it for hours because it literally feels like a day hanging out with your bestie.

Storytelling Ability

Ashley is an amazing storyteller. Instead of rolling through the facts deadpan, she really sets the scene for you. There have been times when I literally couldn’t go to sleep because I was so scared. But she maintains a high level of respect for the victims. She really tastefully explains the crimes in a way where you stay interested and empathetic for the victim rather than thrill-seeking. You feel invested the whole way through and want to seek justice for all the victims.

Cleanliness

While I wouldn’t listen to this podcast with my kids in the room because of the subject matter, the content is completely clean. I have found that it is hard to find a good podcast out there that isn’t filled with curse words, but this one is squeaky clean. I feel confident recommending it to any of my friends.

Catfish

Wondery

Nev Schulman, Kamie Crawford, Max Joseph

Catfish is an MTV show that is adapted for listening in podcast form. It does a great job of narrating what you see in the typical show. You don’t even miss the visual.

What Is It?

A catfish is someone who scams another person for personal benefit. Some people do it for attention and some people do it for money. But whatever the reason, it is a mystery to find out who is behind it in these episodes! People write in to the show Catfish for help to figure out who they have been talking to on the internet for years sometimes.

Why I Love It

This podcast is definitely a guilty pleasure. There is no way around it, it is just pure drama, but of the best kind. It really sucks you in and you can’t help but be shocked at every single one of these stories. It is amazing what people will do.

There are several episodes available and it will take you quite a while to work through them all. The hosts are funny and great narrators even though it was originally made for the screen, the transition to the podcast is executed excellently.

Twin Flames

Wondery

Stephanie Beatriz

This is a newer podcast of only 6 episodes, but it is one you probably won’t want to miss. If you are intrigued by cult followings, then this is a great podcast to sink your teeth into.

What Is It?

This podcast follows the story behind the cult following of Twin Flames Universe. It was a YouTube channel that started out just helping people find their soul mates in unconventional ways. The leaders created a community following that encouraged people to go to great lengths to be with their soul mates even if their love was not reciprocated.

There are several different points of view on the podcast and you hear several different voices.

Why I Love It

I can’t lie, I love a little true-to-life drama. The psychology of why and how people are manipulated is very shocking to me and it’s almost like roadkill– I can’t look away. I find it fascinating that people fall into cults still today with so much information out there about them.

The host, Stephanie Beatriz does a great job interviewing and narrating the pieces together. It’s  a great work of investigative journalism.

Something Was Wrong

Audiochuck

Tiffany Reese

If you have ever enjoyed sitting around with your friends discussing your worst first date, then this is a podcast that is made especially for you.

What Is It?

This podcast shares stories of various people’s experiences when “something was wrong.” This could be a blind date turned dangerous or it could be a whole relationship that is filled with gaslighting. At some point your gut tells you that something is terribly wrong, whether this is after minutes or after months, it is about that moment when you realize something is wrong.

Why I Love It

This podcast is educational at its heart because it teaches women that abusive relationships can come in many different forms. You might identify abuse as physical, but there are many red flags along the way that women can identify before things turn nasty.

This is a safe space for people to share their experiences and their regret in a no-judgment zone. It’s great to be able to talk about some of these subjects that can sometimes feel shameful for the victims. It’s vastly important to show that abuse can happen to anyone.

Anatomy of Murder

AudioChuck

Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi and Scott Weinberger

This is a great podcast that goes through solved murders and explains how a case goes from unknown to solved.

What Is It?

This podcast is produced by Ashley Flowers, who is the voice behind Crime Junkie. While Crime Junkie is more of a besties storytime, this one comes off a little more professional sounding. Both Anna and Scott had a professional carrier in the justice department prior to hosting this podcast. This point of view helps them have a bit more clout as they walk through each murder and discuss how it was done and how the perps were caught.

Why I Love It

Like Crime Junkie, this podcast approaches telling the stories of the victims with a lot of respect. There is a lot of empathy and seeking justice for the victims.

One thing that sets this podcast apart from Crime Junkie is that it actually interviews the families of the victims along with the police who were on the case at the time. It has a bit more insight from people who actually worked the case and a lot of different perspectives of people at the time. Sometimes it can be frustrating to hear about a crime that was committed with only the information that you could find in a newspaper, but these hosts really go above and beyond by tracking down the people who were closest to the incident.

Dirty John

Wondery

Christopher Goffard

This podcast is yet another true-crime podcast that tells the saga of a parasitic man who walked into a woman’s life but couldn’t walk back out.

What Is It?

This story really has it all. It is all your worst dating nightmares rolled into one. This series of 13 episodes follow an interior designer later a middle-aged woman who was looking for love online. She ended up finding it in Dirty John who charmed her off her feet. Slowly the mask came off and she found out what kind of character he really was.

Why I Love It

While this may just seem like a dating story gone wrong on the surface, it is a truly shocking tale with a victorious ending. If you want some vigilante justice, this is a great story for you.

Conclusion

These are just a handful of my favorite podcasts for a BionicGym workout. I find that reserving them for when I am about to work out makes me anticipate it more than I would if I had nothing to look forward to.
